In order to be on the edge of the technological development, we invest more than 5% of our turnover in R&D.

Cannon has been involved in innovative projects supported by the European Commission, in the framework of the environment and climate protection actions.

The R&D team based in Caronno Pertusella (Varese) is composed of 15 engineers exclusively dedicated to the development of technologies related to polyurethane foaming, composite materials molding, molds, thermoforming and industrial automation.

This unit is focused on the following:

  • Studying and testing of new technologies to be applied to future machines that will be put on the market
  • Testing campaigns in collaboration with the raw material producers to refine Cannon technologies using advanced materials to improve the quality of the finished product
  • Pre-series production for clients that are developing cutting-edge production processes
  • Development of new systems, in collaboration with clients, to increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process.

The Life Cral Project

Brembo and Cannon Ergos launched LIFE CRAL to develop and validate an industrial pilot plant for eco-friendly semisolid casting. The project aims to reduce emissions in aluminum production by using recycled aluminum and eco-magnesium instead of pollutants. Brembo is responsible for project management and selecting sustainable materials for automotive braking components, while Cannon focuses on engineering and manufacturing.

The Life Cresim Project

Sponsored by the European Union’s LIFE program, CRESIM is an innovative pilot process for producing CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymers) composites from recycled carbon fiber. This project allows the creation of lightweight products with mechanical characteristics comparable to those made by virgin carbon fiber and considerable environmental benefits.

  • Two robots for heandling
  • Suitable moulds
  • A 1000 tons press

The Life K12 Project

Sponsored by the European Union’s LIFE program, the K12 project aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of an innovative polyurethane insulation technology, improving 30% thermal insulation and 20% energy efficiency of household cold appliances. In the industrial refrigerator production process were up to 50%, applying the novel insulation material with zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and minimum Global Warming Potential (GWP).
